4th Grade Field Trips

Salter Museum & Strataca

On May 9, the Argonia 4th grade students walked to the Salter Museum. We were super excited to visit Susanna Madora Salter’s home.  We studied Mrs. Salter during our Famous Kansan unit back in January.  There were also several students who did further research and completed their Social Studies State Assessment project over Mrs. Salter.  Our fantastic tour guides led us through the house stopping in each room to explain the historical artifacts and the significance of each room. The students were quite interested and had a lot of questions! We ended the tour by visiting the old church behind the museum. We got to view even more historical artifacts that have been collected or donated over the years from people in town or the surrounding area. We sure enjoyed learning more about our town’s history!

On May 17, we took a field trip to Hutchison to visit Strataca.  The underground salt mine has become a long-standing tradition for the 4th grade.  Every year I so enjoy watching the amazement and awe on the students' faces whenever we first come off the elevator and start walking through the museum.  It’s fun to hear them answering questions over topics we learned in our Science and having those topics come alive for them. The dark walk is always incredibly cool where we walk through the mine with flashlights and go in parts of the mine where normal tours do not go.  I did not attend our field trip this year as I had a family event to attend.  Dr. Clark and Wayne Stephens had the pleasure of experiencing all of this with the kids this year.  I was super sad but it was so fun to hear what they had to say about their experience underground.  They ended the day with lunch at Carey park and played on the playground.  Thank you Dr. Clark and Wayne Stephens for taking my class!  This year’s 4th graders are Kristian Calderon, Neveah Clark, Ryder Gomez, Haddie Griffith, Talon Johnston, Aiden Mitchell, Rosie Row, Zoey Smith, Dawson Taton, and Wyatt Yates.
